"......thanks for all you do for keeping the Blues growing."
Bill Wax, Proprietor of Low-Fi's Bar and Pool Hall on XM Radio Channel 74

Founded in July, 1995 the Capital Area Blues Society was organized to support a growing interest in Blues in the Lansing area. We are a growing organization with many ideals and goals and appreciate your interest.  We exist for the preservation, promotion, and education of the uniquely American music called the Blues.

What We Do

- Our monthly newsletter publication, The Blues Ambassador, is our best marketing and communication tool.  We distribute over 500 copies through direct mail and drop-off stops around the greater Lansing area.

- Our websites:  www.Myspace.com/capitalareabluessociety  and www.cabsblues.com

- Special events and fund raisers.....Our biggest party of the year, the annual Blues Brawl, selects a band to compete in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.

- Education programs and, more recently, being involved in the very successful *OLD TOWN BLUES FESTIVAL*

We have welcomed many Blues artists to our community including Jason Ricci, Watermelon Slim, Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, Junior Wells, Larry McCray, Tab Benoit, James Harman, Koko Taylor, Johnny Winter, and on and on. This is a community not known to be a haven for the Blues. However, we have shown with determination and some good fortune, great things are possible in the Lansing area.

In 2010, CABS will celebrate its 15th year of existence without any signs of slowing down. We are a 501(c) (3) nonprofit which enables CABS to do more within our community through educational initiatives.  Hopefully this will also assist our organization in obtaining more grant monies to put towards future events.

Please take a minute to look around the Capital Area Blues Society web site. See what we have to offer; Join our ever-growing membership base, and, most importantly, become involved.   Help us in perpetuating the success of CABS by supporting the events that we and other organizations present to the Lansing community.

The first dues paying member of the CABS organization was Dennis Cullinan who then was playing with Those Delta Rhythm Kings.  Dennis is currently still playing the saxophone with Bill Malone and the Old Town Blues Band.
